LED Lights Make Us Better Members of the Community

Throughout these blog posts, we’ve discussed big LED projects like what’s happening in China or in cities across the USA. We’ve also discussed smaller LED projects such as liquor packaging and new ways to download coupons on our smartphones. We really haven’t gotten into the LED benefits for things like community centers or social service buildings. LEDs have been making a gigantic impact when it comes to social services, as they are a more sustainable source of energy which means reduced bills and increased power – more bang for your buck, in other words. One such organization that is taking full advance of LED lights is the Women’s Center in Marquette, Michigan.

As this Uppermichigansource.com article points out, the benefits have been immediate and have instilled a sense of social pride and civic duty with many of the workers and citizens. To reconfigure their lighting system, which needed 200 new lights, the Women’s Center raised funds and enlisted the help of volunteers through the U.P. Construction Council to make their LED dream a reality. Because of the LED lights, the Center will save thousands of dollars, which means that that excess money will go to what the Center does best: helping the women of Marquette.

This project was a learning experience for all and really showcased the benefits of community support and civic duty or, as U.P. Construction Council’s E.D. Tony Retaskie says, “What they’re doing is trying to give back to the community in one way, shape or form. It’s also a learning experience for some of our younger apprentices.”

At Illuminations USA, we applaud the efforts of the Women’s Center and U.P. Construction Council. LED lights not only improve the community, they also make us better members of the community.
