Ford Motor LEDs

LED lighting technologies are at the leading edge of the next generation of energy-efficient technologies. Electrical lighting is one of the great innovations of the developed world, and LEDs can keep a workspace or a landscape brightly lit late into the night for a fraction of the electricity required of conventional incandescent bulbs.

Here at Illuminations USA, we love hearing stories about big corporations who have realized that the environmentally friendly nature of LED lightings also lead to big savings in utilities. Recently, the Ford Motor Company became the latest large company to make a major switch to LED technologies at its facilities.

As this article published by The Courier-Journal reports, Ford will install a total of 25,000 LED lighting units at its various facilities located across the country. About 25 percent of this total will be installed in the company’s Kentucky Truck Plant manufacturing facility.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be about $25 million, but the energy savings will likely pay off in a few years. Once these lighting units are operational, executives from the company have said that they expect to realize about $7 million in operational cost savings per year simply on the energy saved by the LED units.

A growing cost-competitiveness with fluorescent lighting is driving the increased use of LED lighting across the globe. Fluorescents have been widely used in industrial and commercial settings over the years, but the 15-year life span of many LED lighting solutions far outlasts the typical two-year service life of most fluorescents.

As the price for installing LED lights in most facilities continues to drop, you can expect to see more of these units in the many stores, offices and other buildings you’ll walk through in your daily life. If you want to get ahead of the curve, call Illuminations USA and we’ll talk to you about building an impressive LED landscape on your property.
